Reenactors dress enthusiastically in period uniforms, presenting life in the fortress of the soldiers and ordinary people.

The Eger Castle has been a National Memorial Site of Hungary since 2014. National Memorial Sites are the most significant locations of our history, they provide an opportunity to experience and get to know the pivotal events of Hungarian history. On the Day of Memorial Sites we present all the things that made the Eger Castle worthy of this title through its thousand year long history.

Day of Archeology

Joining the nationwide programs of the Hungarian Archeological Society, we present the scientific works of recent years to visitors, from the discovery of archeological sites and findings to their scientific processing and research.

The Night of Museums

István Dobó Castle Museum welcomes visitors on the Night of Museums with extended open hours and diverse programs. Torch parade, weapon presentations, bonfire and dance house, scientific lectures, special guided exhibition tours and craftsman programs! The Vizsolyi Bible is the night’s guest of honor!

Géza Gárdonyi’s Birthday

Birthday garden gala in the Géza Gárdonyi Memorial House, with delicious wines and Gárdonyi cake.

Border Fortress Merrymaking Historic Festival

TRADITION – CULTURE – BATTLE – VICTORY - MERRYMAKING During the festival visitors experience the great moments of the glorious siege in 1552 with the lions of Eger! We welcome visitors with historically authentic weapon demonstrations, a tradition preserving army, family programs, knight trials, horseman show, parades, exhibitions and concerts. The craftsmen of traditional crafts offer their products, demonstrate their professional skills and tricks. As the peak of the festival 200 knights reenact the famous scenes of the glorious defense of the Castle and the novel ‘Stars of Eger’!

Autumn fun in the Castle Workshop

They can learn the secrets of the old crafts, try the special tricks of the object-making crafts, and be a part of the everyday life of the valiant life of the border castle! Great program for the whole family!

Eger Castle Day

On 1552 October 17 Turkish forces abandoned the siege of the Eger Castle and left Eger. In memory of the victory every year October 17 is Eger Castle Day. The Castle celebrates this memorable day with educational museum programs and craftsman programs, knight contest shows, historic game houses and professional programs.

Gárdonyi Memorial Day

We cherish the memory of the writer Géza Gárdonyi with a memorial conference, a wreath-laying and a literary tea party.
