The Eger Castle has been a National Memorial Site of Hungary since 2014. National Memorial Sites are the most significant locations of our history, they provide an opportunity to experience and get to know the pivotal events of Hungarian history. On the Day of Memorial Sites we present all the things that made the Eger Castle worthy of this title through its thousand year long history.

TRADITION – CULTURE – BATTLE – VICTORY - MERRYMAKING During the festival visitors experience the great moments of the glorious siege in 1552 with the lions of Eger! We welcome visitors with historically authentic weapon demonstrations, a tradition preserving army, family programs, knight trials, horseman show, parades, exhibitions and concerts. The craftsmen of traditional crafts offer their products, demonstrate their professional skills and tricks. As the peak of the festival 200 knights reenact the famous scenes of the glorious defense of the Castle and the novel ‘Stars of Eger’!

On 1552 October 17 Turkish forces abandoned the siege of the Eger Castle and left Eger. In memory of the victory every year October 17 is Eger Castle Day. The Castle celebrates this memorable day with educational museum programs and craftsman programs, knight contest shows, historic game houses and professional programs.
